1978 Shovelhead Flat Track Bobber
Bob of McKay's Cycle Creations of Kingston, Ontario, Canada made available these photographs of his 1978 Harley Shovelhead Flat Track Racer Bobber.
Bob: "Here is some pictures of one of my Bobbers. It isn't a Flathead but is designed to look like a 1946 WR Flat Tracker. Post it on your page if you like."
"This Bobber was built after restoring an original 1951 WR and seeing the fun of having a Flat Track style bike for street use, number plate and all. It has the drive line from a 1978 FL. It uses some stock parts and some aftermarket. It was done to be period correct style."
Bob's Bobber was designed to resemble a 1946 WR flat track racer.
That's not exactly a racing style 750cc WR Flathead engine, but a 1200cc Harley FL Shovelhead is not a bad substitute at all.
The Shovelhead engine is a classic in its own right and - not unimportant - will outperform the regular flathead.
On top of that: there's no denying that Bob's Bobber looks real awesome!
